§ 111.510. Definitions.
For the purpose of this article the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
"Biochemical oxygen demand" or "BOD." The quantity of oxygen utilized in the biochemical oxidation of organic matter under standard laboratory procedure in five days at twenty degrees Celsius, expressed in milligrams per liter.
"City sewer system." All facilities required to provide sewer service within or from the geographical area served by the City as required by the Federal EPA pursuant to Public Law 92-500, subsequent amendments, if any, and any other legal requirements.
"Filter cake sludge." Treatment plant sludges originating at sewage treatment plants.
"Industrial waste cleanings." All wastes other than domestic wastes which are acceptable discharges and includes filter cake sludge.
"Scavenging cleaning." Those domestic wastes, other than those from septic tank cleaning, which are acceptable discharges.
"Septic tank cleaning." Those wastes removed from a septic tank or other tank which is designed to retain settled sewage solids long enough for satisfactory bacterial decomposition of the solids to take place, primarily by anaerobic bacterial action. This term does not include filter cake sludge herein defined.
"Suspended solids" or "SS." Total suspended matter that either floats on the surface of, or is in suspension in, water, wastewater, or other liquid, and that is removable by laboratory filtering as prescribed in "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater" and referred to as nonfilterable residue.
"Unacceptable discharges." All items enumerated under § 111.512 which the Director of Public Service determines shall not be discharged to the City sewer system as required by the Federal EPA pursuant to Public Law 92-500, subsequent amendments, if any, and any other legal requirements.
