APPENDIX A: PAVING SPECIFICATIONS FOR DOWNTOWN PARKING LOTS

  • Parking, storage areas, and driveways shall be paved to the following minimum standards (State of Ohio, Department of Transportation Specifications, Current Issue):

    A.

    Average Gross Vehicle Weight Not Exceeding 4000 lbs. Light Panel and Pick-up Trucks Permitted

    1.

    Flexible Pavement

    Surface Course—1-½″ minimum thickness; Item 404 Asphaltic Concrete Surface Course

    Base Course—6″ minimum thickness; Item 304 Aggregate Base

    In lieu of Item 304, 4″ minimum thickness Item 301 Bituminous Aggregate Base may be substituted.

    In areas where the California Bearing Ratio of the subgrade exceeds 7.0, Item 304 Aggregate Base may be reduced to 4″ minimum thickness. The California Bearing Ratio test is to be performed by a Soils Laboratory pre-qualified by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

    2.

    Rigid Pavement

    An alternate paving section of rigid pavement 5″ minimum thickness Item 452 Plain Portland Cement Concrete Pavement may be used in lieu of the above-specified flexible pavement. Transverse and longitudinal joint spacing shall not exceed 10 feet.

    B.

    Parking Lots with Truck Delivery Areas; Thirty Trucks or Less Per Day, Average Gross Vehicle Weight 60,000 lbs.

    Flexible Pavement

    Surface Course—2″ minimum thickness; Item 404 Asphaltic Concrete Surface Course

    Base Course—6″ minimum thickness; Item 301 Bituminous Aggregate Base Course

    2.

    Rigid Pavement

    7″ minimum thickness; Item 452 Plain Portland Cement Concrete Pavement
